Tui Na Massage

Tui Na (pronounced "twee nah") is a traditional Chinese massage intended to move qi and blood, as well as break up any stagnation or congestion in the body.

Tui na can almost be thought of as a mix of acupressure and Shiatsu. Tui Na generally uses rhythmic movements and compression along the meridians or channels of the body, just like in Shiatsu. (These are the same meridians or channels used in acupuncture.) Tui Na also incorporates techniques which help “lubricate” your joints and. Similar to acupressure, Tui Na practitioners will press and hold various acupressure points which then removes the blockages that prevent qi flow, thus helping to bring balance and health back to the body.

Many of the techniques of this Chinese massage are similar to a Western massage.  However, in addition to working with joints, muscles, and bones, Tui Na works with the meridian or channel system in the body as well.  Because of this, is a great therapy to use preventatively with respect to both mental and physical stressors.

The typical Tui Na session is 30 or 60 minutes.  Patients are recommended to arrive wearing loose, comfortable clothing, and be prepared for a vigorous massage.
